Commission Process

The first step is to email me to discuss what you would like, time frames, etc, and then once I have been back in touch you can send photos through, and we’ll discuss which would be most suitable.

I do not draw horses/ponies wearing any tack as I prefer to focus on the beauty and character of the subject.

The most important thing is to find suitable photos. Good, clear photos are essential when commissioning your drawing. Clear, sharp reference photos will provide the most detailed portraits -I can’t draw what I can’t see!

Some points to consider when selecting your photo…

DO provide an image that ideally

  • is high resolution
  • has great natural lighting with the sun behind the photographer
  • shows you horse/pet’s character
  • is close enough to show detail, and
  • has a well lit eye, with shine.

DON’T use photos that are

  • low resolution image
  • grainy/dim or blurry
  • use artificial lighting
  • are a distorted view, ie., wide angle or foreshortening, exaggerated nose/muzzle

Please note that if you would like a portrait of an equine or pet friend that is no longer with you, I can use less than ideal photos as long as there is an understanding that this may have an impact on the final rendition.

Please note that your portrait will not be framed. For your drawing to be seen with good clarity, I recommend you use non reflective glass, especially if you have chosen to have a black background.
